Rochdale vs Doncaster Rovers on 01 Oct 22 - Match CentreRovers record back-to-back league victories after a 2-1 win over Rochdale. Goals either side of the half from Kieran Agard and George Miller marched Rovers on to victory in Lancashire. Gary McSheffrey named an unchanged starting 11 to the side that beat Crawley Town 4-1 a week ago. Rovers donned the new 2022/23 third kit for the first time this season to mark the start of Breast Cancer Awareness month. Miller had three significant good opportunities to put Rovers in front early doors. The best opportunity was the second when a mistake from Richard O’Donnell left an open goal.

Biggins (Doncaster Rovers) wins a free kick in the defensive
The second-half did not get off to a pretty start for Rovers, with little opportunities falling their way. Closest was a half chance from Luke Molyneux who was off target from an ambitious 30-yards. Rochdale had the better of the chances in the early part of the second period and looked like they were onto a move that could end up with a goal as Kelly burst into Rovers’ box. It was a sensational tackle from James Maxwell that ended up raining on their parade. It did feel like Rochdale would be the team to score next, but it was Rovers who retook the lead. A great run from Knoyle into the box saw him feed the ball into the path of Miller who wasted no time slotting through the legs of McDonnell.
Schofield reverted back to the same starting XI that began the previous league game against Gillingham two weeks earlier with Tom Anderson returning to the side after a brief injury lay-off. Rovers were on the front foot from the opening whistle with a high-energy start to the game. Kyle Knoyle pushed forward after a slick passing move and drilled the ball across goal but it was out of reach of team mates. Miller drew the first save of the game from Grimsby keeper Max Crocombe four minutes in when he met a cross from Knoyle at the near post with a header which was parried away. And Rovers were ahead after just six minutes. Miller brought down the ball on half way and carried it into the box before switching play across to the lively Knoyle. The full back drilled across the face of goal where Miller was placed to tap home from close range.

Doncaster Rovers vs Stevenage on 25 Oct 22 - Match CentreJordan Roberts’ first half header seals a valuable three points on the road for Boro… Watching on from the press box at the Eco-Power Stadium following his red card on Saturday, Steve Evans named five changes to his starting eleven. Opting for a back four with Carl Piergianni on the bench, Luther James-Wildin and Max Clark were reintroduced to the line-up at full-back.
After picking the ball up just outside the Doncaster area, Alex Gilbey tried his luck with a fierce right-footed shot, only to direct it straight at Jonathan Mitchell to make a simple stop. Midway through the half, Doncaster would go agonisingly close to taking the lead. After Harrison Biggins took control of a loose ball in the middle of the park, the midfielder looked to catch Taye Ashby-Hammond off his line from the half way mark. The Boro stopper was beaten; however, the woodwork wasn’t as the ball cannoned off the top edge and behind for a goal kick. Minutes later, Boro took a deserved lead in South Yorkshire. From a Max Clark throw in on the left high up the pitch, Arthur Read picked up possession before whipping a wicked cross into the danger zone. Back from suspension, Jordan Roberts was also back in the goals and headed home from six yards out.
Carl Piergianni came on for Danny Rose with quarter of an hour to play, just before Doncaster had what looked their best chance of the game. It was the same man who went close from halfway in the first half, Harrison Biggins, this time from within the six-yard box and somehow fired wide with a free header. A let-off for Stevenage as the clock ticked towards the ninety. That would be the hosts’ last chance of the game, as Steve Evans’ side stood strong to keep a hold of the clean sheet and earn a valuable three points on the road.
Grimsby Town vs Doncaster Rovers on 12 Nov 22 - Match CentreRovers made it back-to-back wins in Sky Bet League Two with a comfortable triumph at Grimsby Town. George Miller scored twice, either side of a Harrison Biggins stunner, as head coach Danny Schofield collected the first away victory of his tenure. Substitute John McAtee pulled a goal back for Grimsby ten minutes from time but Rovers were deserved winners at Blundell Park.
Jake Reeves returned along with Arthur Read and Jordan Roberts in midfield, backing an unchanged top two of Danny Rose and Jamie Reid. Steve Evans’ men started the game looking like a side with a point to prove. Away from home, Boro started on the front foot and looked the more comfortable in possession of the two sides. Within the first ten minutes, Boro were the first side to test the opposition’s goalkeeper.
Grimsby grew into the game but found Rovers difficult to break down despite some promising play. Miller went close to adding a second before the break when he turned onto a James Maxwell pass and curled for the far top corner, only to see the ball fly over. And Luke Molyneux drew a save from Crocombe with a low drive in the final act of the first half.

Rovers continued to have the better of attacking play and Harrison Biggins fired over from 20 yards after receiving a cutback from Ben Close. The hosts did not threaten the Rovers goal in the first quarter hour, before Harry Clifton saw a first time effort deflect wide from 20 yards. Knoyle was a major threat for Rovers down the right and embarked on a mazy run into the box before seeing a low drive blocked out for a corner. There was a scare for Rovers midway through the half when Clifton was played clean through as Grimsby broke but Jonathan Mitchell closed him down superbly and blocked the shot just inside the box.

box is saved in the bottom left corner. Assisted by Luke Molyneux.
The forward miss-hit the ball and was off-target with his attempt. On the tenth minute Joseph Olowu and James Maxwell had a coming together defending a Rochdale attack. Unfortunately for Olowu it brought an early end to his game as he was replaced by Bobby Faulkner. For a 15 minute period the game levelled out with little chances for either side but eventually romped up the gears and got their reward. A ball poked across the box by Knoyle found Kieran Agard who confidently poked into the bottom corner of O’Donnell’s goal. Within five minutes of taking the lead Rochdale did equalise. A ball crossed in from the left by Liam Kelly was headed past Jonathan Mitchell by Scott Quigley. Dale’s goal was the last bit of action of the half as referee Darren Drysdale blew for half-time.
The remained of the half was a balanced display, with half chances for both sides but it would be Steve Evans’ men taking the lead into the break. It was almost the perfect start to the second period when Danny Rose picked the ball up on the edge of the Doncaster box, but the Barnsley-born forward could only spin and drag his shot just wide of the near post. With over half an hour to go, Steve Evans made a triple substitution in a bid to freshen his team up and make sure the lead wasn’t going to slip away. Jake Taylor, Luke Norris and Saxon Earley entered the fray as Boro entered into a tense final third of the game. Dan Sweeney went close to doubling Stevenage’s lead and putting the game to bed minutes later, when the defender swung his left foot at the ball from the corner of the home side’s penalty area – but again Jonathan Mitchell was there to make the stop and keep the hosts in the game.
