I was saying that the other day. That’s funny. On the other hand, you know how things go. When you got here, it was a midseason trade. Two years ago, you saw Lou Williams, one day he’s setting 15, 000 points. The next day, in San Antonio at the trade deadline, he’s moved. Last year, we saw the two big moves. Bled and Justise, and then right at the deadline, we’re all in Dallas.
It’s more, I’m still in that mode, man. Every day, I watch. I’m a big college watcher. I watch college basketball, I watch college football. And I see a lot of these guys, they go into the transfer portal, they ended up in these schools, they’re coming out of school. And I just want to be a coach that can prepare them for the next level. That’s not even the NBA, because realistically, you might get two or three guys that go off your team.
This is Morris’ 12th NBA season after being the 14th pick in the 2011 NBA Draft out of Kansas — one pick after Markieff. The Clippers are Morris’ sixth team after spending time with the Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons, Boston Celtics, and New York Knicks. Morris came to the Clippers in February 2020 via midseason trade, and only five players have been with the Clippers longer: Ivica Zubac, Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, Terance Mann, and Amir Coffey. Morris signed a four-year deal with the Clippers in the 2020 offseason and has played 160 regular season games and 32 playoff games with the organization.
”In a one-on-one with The Athletic ahead of this road trip that starts in Philadelphia, Morris spoke about where he’s at right now emotionally, as a pro, and what his future may hold. When we were back in Philly in January for that long road trip, Alex had passed away. This summer, SySy passed away, right before the summer. You got a new one, but then lost your grandfather. Where’s your head, where’s your heart, going back home? Especially with the holiday season and everything. Good question man.
You can’t make every shot. But being as though I want to stay efficient, I try to be as efficient as possible. I try to take as quality a shot as possible. That’s probably why I’m shooting a high clip, because I’m not shooting that many. I try to keep my quality high. I’m not going to force it. We’ve got guys for that. So I’m just playing the spot that’s given to me. There’s two parts of your status right now that is interesting. On one hand, if you finish the year with the team and play enough games and you stay healthy, then you’ll play more games as a Clipper than any of your previous five teams.
It's possible one of these Achilles' heels will wind up tripping the losing team up. How To WatchWhen: Tuesday at 8 p. I’m still in the NBA, I’m still an NBA player. I’m still getting paid a ton of money. My family still gets to watch me. Things could be worse. So I just stay ready, man, and not get down. And whatever comes my way, I’ll be ready for it. We started talking towards the end of the year, last season, you and Markieff talking about your goal to really put an imprint on coaching, HBCUs, and what you’d want to do with that…It doesn’t necessarily. have to be an HBCU; I would love to. It doesn’t necessarily have to be that.

In any lineup, Morris has been one of the best midrange shooters in the NBA, ranking 11th in percentage (46. 7) among the 33 players who attempt at least 3. 0 midrange field goals per game. “If you talk to Marcus, he’s the happiest camper on the team right now because he had to do so much as far as isos and one-on-ones, ” head coach Tyronn Lue said of Morris this week as the Clippers returned to full strength.
I get to go home and see my mom, have my family there. It’s definitely been a tough year in that aspect of losing people that I was close to. End of the day, I just try to keep working. Keep my head down. We all deal with things differently. I think being the way I was brought up — dealing with death, friends, family. It’s almost like you become numb to it, see what I’m saying? But I’m blessed to have my third baby boy. The rest of my family is pretty healthy.
I’m just a guy that like, I’ve had the capability to do a lot of things on the court. But I’m really trying to do like, for the most part, whatever the team needs. Best midrange FG% (min. 3. 0 attempts) So with K and P out, then my midrange shot becomes my dominant shot. I try to get to that. And if they’re playing, I try to space the floor and shoot a ton of 3s. So it’s just natural.

Marcus Morris Sr. unplugged: On personal loss, finding his niche and what's nextThe last time the Clippers were in Philadelphia they overcame a 24-point deficit to defeat the 76ers by a single point with Philadelphia native Marcus Morris Sr. playing through a heavy heart over his friend Alexander Gaddy having been fatally shot in the West Oak Lane neighborhood of North Philadelphia. The team begins a five-game road trip in the City of Brotherly Love Friday night and it’s a reminder of a year in which Morris had losses and additions in his personal life.
And you’re shooting that shot in the high 30s. Again, a tough shot for a lot of guys. Take me through that part of your role. It’s just being ready man, taking what they give me. In this league, you know, you got to find niches. You’ve got to find where you fit at and who you fit around, you know what I’m saying? Me, I try to carry myself as a player that doesn’t need a lot. Just get it done with whatever is put in front of me. So when I get that one or two times a game, I work on it. If I do get my one or two times or three times, whatever, I make sure I make the best out of it.
We saw Serge leave. You’ve got two years on your deal. You know that this team could absolutely use you. You also just know what the chatter is like sometimes. How do you handle it, and what does it mean for you to stay here throughout the whole year? I mean, like, chatter is going to be chatter. Like, if we’re paying attention to that… you know. That’s just the NBA. They’re going to make a line, they’re going to make something. “They want to try something new. ” You know what I mean? At the end of the day, I know the relationship I built with Lawrence Frank. And I know the relationship I built with Steve Ballmer. So I just rely on that.

I’ve always played the midrange down in college. I’ve always been a midrange player. And I just so happen to find a team that allows me to play my game. Even more than that, if you watch a bunch of Clipper games, you know that they’re running the first play out of the first half, second half for Marcus. ATOs, whether Kawhi or PG are playing or not, it’s a mid-post for Marcus, get Marcus a face-up opportunity. You got this thing where you kind of hover around and they just kind of pitch it back to you, a handoff, get you into a face-up above the break 3.
And if they’re going to trade me or if something happened, I think I’d be one of the first to know or just hopefully I have that respect or I built that respect in this league to be able to be in front of whatever happens. But again, man, I’m a pro. I’ve been on a lot of different teams. I just stay ready. Whatever comes my way. Just got to be ready. I don’t complain. I don’t put my head down, feel sorry for myself.
